Fifteen Arches

I have been busy knitting two arches for our knitting group. This is our first joint project and it it to hang at South Square Centre during the Thornton Art Trail. The Art Trail is an annual event where artists of all ages and abilities are invited to submit their work on a particular theme.... this year - guess what? The theme is Thornton Viaduct. Art is displayed around the village in shops and South Square Centre.

City and Guilds 2nd year work

I have finally started my projects for the second year of City and Guilds Patchwork and quilting. Here is the top of the box which I am making - I have started on the sides and will put them on my blog soon. The design is from a photo taken at the end of my road and it has been stylised as Clarice Cliff. My son had painted me a picture when he was 12 showing the viaduct and the sun in those colours and style and I added to them to make to design for the box lid. It is stuck together using bondaweb and machine couched cotton knitting yarn along the joins. I have taken elements of the design to use for the sides of the lid. The base is going to be plain, but I haven't decided what colour yet.

City and Guilds Patchwork and Quilting FORM MODULE

I am really enjoying this module - and I have almost completed it. Here is the resolved piece. We had to make a 3-D scene based on a landscape view. I chose the view from the end of my street - the viaduct (was a train line - now a cycle track- or it will be when they reopen it). This is the 3D scene that I made from painted card and acetate. It fits in a C6 envelope.
This is the view from the top showing the zigzag sides and the layers mounted on the folds so that it folds out to be a 3D scene and then folds flat for storage inside the envelope.

Knitting

As you can see I am not a very frequent blogger, but that doesn't mean that I am not constantly making stuff.... Have a look at my latest knitting projects....
Mrs Pig was knitted by my 83 year older mother for my friends new grandson. Mum has been knitting these little pigs for almost 50 years since the pattern was first published in Woman's Weekly.
My lovely son took this photo of the Chunky cardigan I knitted last month. It is probably the nicest thing I have ever knitted for myself. And it fits really well!!
This little waistcoat is knitted in double knitting yarn and is my own pattern. It worked quite well - considering I have never designed my own knitting before.
